Softball

Softball is very similar to baseball but is played with a larger ball. The game is mainly played for recreation and is played at club levels. However, the Olympics has a women's softball match, played professionally by the women players of their respective countries.

The game was first created by George Hancock and has gained popularity over the years. Each softball game is played for 7 innings, with each innings having two sections. There are 9 players on each team, and both the teams bat and field in succession.

Softball - A Major Olympic Sport

The Summer Olympics games that recognize women's softball are also in the fast-pitch category. The countries that participate in the Olympics for softball are New Zealand, the United States of America, Australia, Japan, China, and almost all the countries of Europe, the most notable of them being Italy and the Netherlands. There are 12 national teams for softball from Europe alone, in the fast pitch category.

A Unique and Fast-Paced Game

The ball with which softball is played ranges between 11 to 16 inches. There are two softball games- the slow-pitch and the fast-pitch softball. The field is also smaller. Compared to conventional baseball, softball is more fast-paced, and the smaller field size is one of the reasons.

The most well-known professional women's team playing this sport is the Women's Professional Fastpitch or WPF from the United States. While there was also a men's softball team at one point in the US, it was dissolved after a couple of decades.

Despite immense popularity, many people are still unaware of this game's thrills and excitement, mainly because they have not seen a softball match live. If you are one of them, book your ticket for softball matches. You will surely fall in love with this game, and it will become your new favorite sport.
